Fundamental training exercises are given to assiststudents in their preparation for the long pole sequence. Using the pole properly in basic training will students’ ability to punch with power. Grandmaster Kwok, also demonstrates empty hand techniques showing how to defend against a person’s punching attacks and when someone is attempting to attack with a stick or club. Various, Chin Na or joint lock techniques are also demonstrated showing how to disable an aggressors attacks. Empty hand and kicking techniques are combined showing their application in combat situations.
Comments on Production:
The production style presented by Grandmaster Kwok’s, is basic and straightforward in the demonstration of the Long pole sequence. There isn’t anything flashy regarding his demonstration or in the explanation of technique. It soundly emphasizes the basics.
Review Comments:
While Grandmaster Kwok demonstrates the form, one can easily see, how he generates power in his movements. This is the essence of weapons training, which is more than swinging a heavy object with brute force. One aspect, which is difficult to observe in the pole form while executing technique, is that one also feels with the pole, as the enemy is engaged, thus the pole should be regarded as an extension of one’s body. Attempting, to carry a 9 foot long pole, as a weapon nowadays, is impractical. But excellent for the training and execution of Wing Chun applications. Grandmaster Kwok, expertly demonstrates this fact, toward the end of his training video.
