Quick Summary:
This production is the second volume, in the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy series, presented by Master Benny Meng. Master Meng, continues with his presentation of the the Muk Yan Jong forms final sequences, showing how each basic technique is used. Wing Chum technique depends on establishing the proper angles in executing technique, expressing ones energy at the proper time, and taking into account, one’s personal attributes in training. Understanding, these three basic principles from the beginning, allows for technique to emerge and flow naturally with practice. Master Meng, demonstrates each section of the form, while explaining the reasoning behind each technique through applications, which depend on the fundamentals of the Siu Nim Tau, center line, and moving properly while combining techniques of the second form, Chum Kiu and the explosive energy of the third form, Bi Gee. The Muk Yan Jong form, is also practiced as an empty hand set, called the Da Hung Jong. This aids one’s practice, in the execution of applications on the wooden dummy, while promoting further accuracy in technique and skilled development in Wing Chun.
Comments on Production:
This video is a straightforward production on the basics of the Muk Yan Jong, Wooden Dummy form and applications. Each instructional section is presented individually, showing how a specific technique is used, followed by an actual application, in a combative situation and how certain attacks can change one’s, defensive/offensive response. The approach in this production, is fundamental and basic, however, nothing is missed in the videos format in presenting instructional quality.
Review Comments:
This Muk Yan Jong, production demonstrates principles that other training videos seem to lack, showing how one should approach learning the wooden dummy training set. Thus the approach, as one soon learns, is as important, as the sequence of the form and therefore ultimately provides the bases for technique to become fluid with the expression of power. Learning a particular sequence of the Muk Yan Jong, is not as important as applying the basic principles in one’s practice. Master Meng expresses and demonstrates this idea, quite well…and his students assisting him in this production reveal how excellent his approach is.
