What it’s About:
Sifu Austin Goh, provides basic instruction in the Wing Chun weapons pole form in this DVD. This weapon is generally referred to as the “Dragon Pole,” and is an integral part of the Wind Chun system of Kung Fu.
Comments:
If you’re looking for a basic pole form, that is relatively short and easy to learn, and with practical applications, then this DVD is for you. Sifu Goh’s DVD demonstrates the pole form and talks about its purpose in striking the six vital points of the body.
Applications are shown in partner practice where you can learn how to use the pole in an effective manner. The form shows how the pole can be moved swiftly with power and accuracy. Wind Chun Kicks are also demonstration during applications which show that you can rely on your feet as well as the pole for defensive purposes in applicable situations.
Although, one my find that carrying a long and conspicuous defensive weapon around like a six foot dragon pole as impractical; the practice of the dragon pole can certainly contribute to your skill in the projection of power. The pole form can also give you a better sense of balance and the importance of rooting when holding and using a weapon. Learning pole form training can also contribute to one’s overall flexibility and the development of strength and endurance. I feel this DVD provides the very basics and excellent foundation for move advanced training in the Wing Chun system.
